Our Hymnbook

Let Your Kingdom Come

Bob Kauflin; Based on The Valley of Vision

Verse 1

Your glorious cause, O God

Engages our hearts

May Jesus Christ be known

Wherever we are

We ask not for ourselves, but for Your renown

The cross has saved us so we pray

Your kingdom come

Chorus

Let Your kingdom come

Let Your will be done

So that everyone might know Your Name

Let Your song be heard everywhere on earth

Till Your sovereign work on earth is done

Let Your kingdom come

Verse 2

Give us Your strength, O God

And courage to speak

Perform Your wondrous deeds

Through those who are weak

Lord use us as You want, whatever the test

By grace we’ll preach Your gospel

Till our dying breath

Behind the hymn

"Let Your Kingdom Come" was written by Bob Kauflin, the Director of Worship for Sovereign Grace Churches and one of the most thoughtful voices in the modern worship movement. Kauflin based the hymn on prayers from "The Valley of Vision," a collection of Puritan prayers and devotions compiled by Arthur Bennett and published in 1975. The Valley of Vision has become a beloved resource in Reformed circles, offering deeply personal and theologically rich prayers from seventeenth-century Puritans like John Bunyan, Richard Baxter, and David Brainerd. Kauflin took the themes and language of these centuries-old prayers and set them to music, making the devotional tradition of the Puritans accessible to modern worshippers. The hymn's cry for God's kingdom to come echoes the Lord's Prayer while drawing on the Puritan emphasis on personal holiness, dependence on grace, and longing for God's glory to fill the earth. It represents Kauflin's broader ministry philosophy that worship music should be a vehicle for historic, tested theology rather than fleeting sentiment.
